Participation in the joint ICODIM -EuroDIM 2022 conference

Researchers from ISSP UL’s Laboratory of Computer Modeling of Electronic Structure of Solids, Laboratory of Spectroscopy, and Laboratory of Kinetics in Self-Organizing Systems participated in international conferences ICOOPMA 2022 and EuroDIM 2022 organized jointly in the medieval city of Ghent, from 3 to 8 July 2022. Both conferences have a long history as separate entities and kept their character during this edition. This time there were sessions exclusive to one of the conferences. Still, it was possible to attend also joint sessions, thanks to the strong relation between optical materials and material defects.

One of the invited speakers at the EuroDIM 2022 was ISSP UL’s leading researcher Dr. phys. Vladimir Pankratov. The theme of his speech was the Characterization of ion-induced radiation effects in scintillator materials using synchrotron VUV techniques. Leading researcher Dr. Phys. Anatoli Popov participated in the International Advisory Committee meeting of the EuroDIM conference as a representative from Latvia.  A. Popov presented the proposal for the co-organization of the next ICDIM conference in 2024 at L N Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU), Astana, Kazakhstan. The conference will be organized by Professor Alma Dauletbekova and her team, with Anatoli Popov as co-chair responsible for the scientific program of the conference. ENU is one of the important scientific partners of the ISSP UL. The joint scientific work results in the creation of 10 publications every year and regular hosting of graduate students and young scientists with short internships.

ICOOPMA (International Conference on Optical, Optoelectronic, and Photonic Materials and Applications) is a non-profit conference run by scientists for scientists without any institutional constraints and restrictions. It is an international conference series on optical, optoelectronic, and photonic materials for a wide range of applications from telecommunications to photovoltaics and optical, optoelectronic, and electro-optic properties of all classes of materials and material systems.

EuroDIM (Europhysical conferences) take place every four years and are alternated with international conferences (ICDIM). The series is a broad international forum on the science and technology of defect-related phenomena in crystalline and amorphous wide band-gap materials.
